Danny Alford attended an
independent Baptist church in Abilene, Texas as a teenager and
went to youth camp with them in Albuquerque, New Mexico. During
that week of preaching, the Lord convicted his heart of sin.
Following the message, on the 4th of July, 1968, he went forward
during the invitation and invited Jesus into his heart to forgive
his sin and save his soul. Bro. Alford was sixteen years old
at that time and not long after that, the Lord began dealing
with him about full time Christian Service. He made preparations
to attend Bible College after graduation from High School with
the goal of being a pastor one day. He met his wife, Gail, at
the end of their first year of college and they were married
the following year. After graduation, he worked as an assistant
pastor.
Eventually, Mr. Alford accepted the pastorate for a country church
in Texas. God did use him there in an unusual way but it wasn't
long before he realized that he was not prepared to be a pastor
yet. He resigned and went back to working as an assistant pastor.
God had been dealing with Mr. Alford's heart for some time about
mission work but his desire was still to pastor his own church.
While serving the Lord in several different churches as an assistant
pastor, he waited nearly 20 years for God to open the door for
a pastorate. Nothing happened because God was calling him to
the mission field, not to be a pastor.
Finally, he put up the "white flag" and surrendered.
Mr. Alford did not know where God was calling him but was ready
to go wherever the Lord wanted. Almost immediately, God laid
Amsterdam, Holland on his heart and mind. He spoke to him through
His Word, the Holy Spirit, and every day circumstances. There
was no doubt in Mr. Alford's heart that this was what God wanted
for him.
He publicly surrendered to the call of being a missionary on
February 28, 1999. After twenty-three months of raising his support,
he and his wife were in Holland. They remained there for five
years--almost to the day. During those five years, a strong church
was established. However, also during the entire five years he
was also battling the Dutch government for a residence visa.
He lost his final appeal and had to leave in March, 2006.
God was still in control and while the Alfords were making arrangements
to pack up and move, the Lord opened a ministry in Exeter, England.
After securing a British Visa in Just 15 DAYS (!!!), the Alfords
were on their way to England where they are currently serving
the Lord. |
